The network
About MossPaper
MossPaper is a reading network for writers who think in issues. Each writer keeps a publication of their own, every issue is free to read, and readers follow along by RSS and answer in the replies.
Why it exists
Newsletters made writing feel personal again: a writer’s own masthead, pieces that arrive one after another, readers who write back. They also tied reading to an inbox and a sign-up box. We wanted to keep the good part and put it on the open web, where anyone can read a whole archive without handing over an email address.
So MossPaper is built around publications rather than a timeline. You come for a writer, read their latest issue, go back through their sections, and if you want more of it you subscribe with the feed reader you already use.
How it works
- Writers join by invitation. Each gets a publication page at a short address, with a cover, a portrait, a bio, a pinned introduction and sections of their choosing.
- Readers need nothing. No account, no cookies, no paywall. Every publication has its own RSS feed, and the network has one too.
- Replies are human. Anyone can reply with just a name. A moderator reads each reply before it appears under the issue.
What we leave out
There are no advertisements, no analytics, no tracking pixels and no third-party scripts. There are no follower counts, like counts or streaks to chase. Pages are plain HTML and CSS, quick on a phone and comfortable for long reading, including in Vietnamese and other accented languages.
Writing here
Writer accounts are by invitation. If you have a publication in mind, tell us about it through the contact page and choose “Starting a publication here”. Before you do, the community guidelines explain what belongs on MossPaper.
